She was 86. Miss Winters, known in educational circles throughout Louisiana, taught at Northwestern State University for 46 years, the longest tenure of any NSU professor. Miss Winters began her teaching career at NSU in 1908 and retired in 1954. Miss Winters served as a sponsor of the Purple Jackets Service Organization at NSU. She was an active community leader in social, civic and religious organizations.

She was born in Iberia Parish in January 1888. She is survived by one sister, Mary Winters of Natchitoches. Funeral services, under the direction of Blanchard Funeral Home, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Henry Blount and the Rev.

Jolly Harper officiating. Burial will be in the Memory Lawn Cemetery. A family spokesman asked that no flowers be sent. Donors are asked to make contributions to the Mary Catherine Winters Memorial Scholarship Fund. Service Station Attendant Shot A service station attendant was shot in the back late Tuesday while he sat in a station at Youree Drive and Olive Street.

Donald V. King Jr. of 6408 Southern was treated and released at Confederate Memorial Medical Center for a bullet wound in the back. King told police he suddenly felt something strike his back and found blood. Police said the bullet was recovered and was being used in the investigation.

Weaver Infant MINDEN Jennifer Weaver, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Weaver of Minden, died Tuesday in a Shreveport hospital. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery with the Rev.

Dr. Ronald Prince officiating. Burial will be under the direction of the Pinelands Funeral Home. Survivors in addition to her parents, include a brother, James Weaver of Minden; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.

J. R. Weaver and Mr. and Mrs. J.

T. Nix, all of Minden. Mrs. Leola Hughes LEESVILLE Funeral services for Mrs. Leola Kay Hughes, 87, of Leesville will be held at 4 p.m.

Thursday in the Hixson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. George Werner officiating, assisted by the Rev. Arthur Haymon. Burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery. Mrs.

Hughes died Wednesday in the Broyles Clinic. Survivors include three sons, Hoy Hughes and C. A. Hughes, both of Leesville and Murph Hughes of Baton Rouge; four daughters, Mrs. Floyd Underwood of Leesville, Mrs.

Theda Bourgeois of Lake Charles, Mrs. Freda Creuse of Wood-ville, and Mrs. Jewel Weeks of Pineland, 14 grandchildren and 13 great -grandchildren. Mrs. Ingram COUSHATTA Mrs.

Wilford Ingram, 73, oi Marthaville died Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Beulah Methodist Church with the Rev. Foster Jennings officiating. Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery under the direction of Rockett Nettles Funeral Home of Coushatta.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Lloyd Ingram of Doyline; three daughters, Mrs. Mattie McNeely of Florien, Mrs. Gertie Megason of Robeline and Mrs. Gladys Freemon of Marthaville; one sister, Mrs. Nora Walker of Ajax; 14 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Mrs. M. E. Snead COUSHATTA Mrs. Myrtle Elizabeth Brown Snead, 85, of Castor died Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Rockett Nettles Funeral Home in Coushatta with the Rev. J. D. Thompson officiating, assisted by the Rev.

Ray Adcock. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Rockett -Nettles Funeral Home of Coushatta. Survivors include two sons, M. S. Snead of Castor and A.

Sturdivant, 59, died at the St. Francis Hospital in Monroe after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 m. Thursday in the Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Keys officiating.

Clark andT. J.Rayhart. Pietro Toledo Graveside services for Pietro Toledo, 82, will be in Greenwood Cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday. Mr.

Toledo, a retired cement finisher, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday after a long il-hiess at Roseview Nursing Home. He had lived in Shreveport one month. Officiating for the services will be the Rev. Boyd Jones.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wellman's Funeral Home. Mrs. Lula Spence Mrs. Lula B. Spence, 86, of 605 Wall died Wednesday afternoon in Physicians and Surgeons Hospital after a lengthy illness.

A longtime resident of Shreveport, she was a member of First Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Osborn's Funeral Home with the Rev. P. M.

Caraway officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery. Mrs. Spence is survived by a sister, Mary Alice Barger of Shreveport; and a newphew, George B. Roche of Abbeville.

LOUISIANA Joe Jordan LEESVILLE Funeral services for Joe Lee Jordan, 47, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Hixson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. S. E. Deason officiating, assisted by the Rev.

Kenneth Crumbley, pastor of the Cooper Baptist Church. Burial with Masonic rites will be in the Cooper Cemetery. Mr. Jordan of Mur-freesboro, died Monday while employed at the Armour Packing Co. plant where he was a maintenance man.

He was formerly of Leesville and was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include a son, Alfred Ray Jordan; a daughter, Eva Pauline Jordan, both of Houston, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Jordan of Leesville; two brothers, George Lee Jordan of Irving, and San-ford Jordan of Lake Charles; and four sisters, Mrs.

Mr. Tipton Burial will be in the Longstreet Cemetery under the direction of the Rose Neath Funeral Home of Logans port. Miss Vernon was a retired Caddo Parish school teacher, a member of the Baptist Church and the Keatchie chapter of the Eastern Star. Survivors include four sisters. B. Schilling of Amite and Mrs. Carl George Pitts CARTHAGE, Tex. -George Drew Pitts, 78, of Tenaha died Monday as the result of an automobile accident. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev.

James E. Thompson officiating. Burial was in the Woods Cemetery. Survivors include two sons, Chester Pitts of Tenaha and Willie Pitts of Houston; three daughters, Mrs. Hazel Knight of Houston, Mrs.

Sybil Harris of Longview and Mrs. Avis Vickery of Houston; two sisters, Mrs. Bea Finklea of Texas City and Mrs. Rachel Hudson of Carthage; five brothers, Hal Pitts and Willie Pitts, both of Tenaha, Van Pitts and Fred Pitts, both of Houson, and Dave Pitts of Shreveport; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Myrtie Rogers CARTHAGE, Tex. Mrs. Myrtie Rogers, 90, of Tatum died Monday at her residence following a long illness. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Hawthorn Funeral Home chapel with the Rev.

Shirley Jean Thrash, 39, of Nacogdoches will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Oakley Metcalf Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in the Old Palestine Cemetery. Mrs. Thrash died Tuesday in the Memorial Hospital.

Prominent Resident Succumbs Gross Taylor Williams 58, of 702 Thora, a prominent Shreveport businessman, died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Schumpert Medical Center after a brief illness. Mr. Williams had been with Texas Eastern Transmission Corp. since 1958 when he joined the company as supervisor of rates.

Prior to that affiliation he was president of Shreveport Refrigeration Co. Inc. A resident of Shreveport since 1946, Mr. Williams was active in many civic organizations, including holding the presidency of the Caddo chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. A native of Chicago, he was an honor graduate of Dartmouth College and graduated with a master's degree from Harvard University Business School.

He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternities. Mr. Williams began his career with his father's biscuit company at Evanston, 111., leaving there to come to Shreveport. He was a member of several civic clubs, business associations and appliance clubs both locally and nationally and was well known for his efforts in clothing drives, Community Chest and March of Dimes campaigns and other civic ventures. Starting in the appliance business with little experience in the field, Williams saw his company grow from its home store at 411 Louisiana Ave.

Billy Horacek of Bossier City, died at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Confederate Memorial Medical Center 10 days after her birth in Bossier General Hospital. Graveside services wiu ne held at 2 p.m. today at Hill Crest Cemetery. The Rev.

John Cunningham, pastor of St. Jude Catholic Church, and the Rev. H. Melton Prothro, pastor of Haughton Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow under the direction of the Boone Funeral Home.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Horman Thompson of Haughton and Mr. and Mrs. Louis A.
