DIXIE'S FRIDAY SATURDAY SAIGON, South Vietnam (AP) The United States disclosed Friday it had passed on to North Vietnam and the Viet Cong information folders on 87 American servicemen missing in Vietnam which "show conclusively" that the Communists possess information on the particular individuals. (UPI) At least three gunmen took 25 to 30 hostages in a supermarket Thursday night following an abortive robbery attempt.

Two of the gunmen and one hostage suffered minor wounds. The gunmen, negotiating with police, demanded a car and hostages to accompany them in their getaway. Police said three or possibly four young men attempted to hold up the Country Club Market in this suburb south of Minneapolis shortly before 8pm CST Police, apparently called to the market by a customer, arrived while the holdup was in process. During an exchange of gunfire, two of the gunmen and at least one customer suffered minor injuries. It was not clear whether the wounds were caused by gunfire or broken glass.

There was a report that one gunman was taken into custody as he tried to leave the market. Dr. Robert Long of the Hennepin County Medical Center was called to the store to treat the injured gunmen. He was allowed to leave the building and said one of the gunmen was injured in the shoulder and another was injured in the knee. 1 i I W.H Compton Local Man Heads Navy Air Unit Cmdr William Compton, a Shreveport native and graduate of Byrd High School, has assumed command of Naval Patrol Squadron 56 at the Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Fla Compton, who attended Louisiana State University, joined the Naval Aviation Cadet program in 1936.

In addition to limiting the cyanide discharges into the Monongahela, the proposed EPA rules would require the six plants of the three firms to cut their phenol levels from 869 pounds a day Phenol, a caustic acid byproduct of steel production, is specifically being blamed for the recent outbreak of illnesses. An EPA spokeswoman said the proposed cuts, to less than 1 per cent of current dischages of cyanide and about 9 per cent of current phenol dumping, would bring the Monongahela into line PSRC OKd 19 Drives During '74 During 1974 the Public Solicitation Review Council, of Shreveport and Bossier City (PSRC) approved 19 campaigns, disapproved eight others and made three studies of agencies for the United Way, according to PSRC President William R. Bennett PSRC is a central agency through which proposals for fund raising campaigns in the area may be cleared. The agency evaluates the necessity and worthiness of the appeals to determine justification for the money sought, the character and efficiency of the campaign sponsors and to space campaigns during the year, Bennett said.

The 1974 campaigns approved were Arthritis Foundation, Centenary College Choir, Centenary College Great Teachers Fund, Citizens for Sesame Street, Junior Achievement, League of Women Voters, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Mentally Retarded Children's Christmas Fund, National Foundation, Northwest Louisiana Heart Association. Norwela Council, Boy Scouts; Oakwood Home for Women, Satori House, Shreveport Bossier Joy Fund, Shreveport Symphony Society, Sports for Boys Youth Program, United Negro College Fund, United Way and Young Women's Christian Association. Still to be considered by PITTSBURGH, Pa (AP)-The Environmental Protection Agency said Thursday that three major steel firms are dumping more than a ton of cyanide a day into the Monongahela River which provides drinking water for suburban South Hills residents. The EPA announced the results of its examination of the water in conjunction with the filing of a request for an adjudicatory hearing by the firms S. Steel Jones Laughlin Steel Corp.

and Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. The EPA said hundreds of persons in the past three weeks have been stricken with nausea, diarrhea and other gastrointestinal ailments related to the drinking water. The EPA and the firms have been negotiating for several months to develop proposed regulations to reduce allowable cyanide levels in the river to 15 1 pounds a day. There are currently no restrictions on the amount of cyanide dumped into the river EPA sources said the agency had believed the firms agreed to the proposed regulations and that the filing for the hearing Thursday came as a surprise The three firms had no immediate comment. An adjudicatory hearing in-volves presentation of evidence and arguments from the firms and from interested citizens or organizations before an administrative law judge appointed by the EPA.

The judge, after conducting conferences and hearings, submits a recommendation to the agency for a decision. An EPA spokesman said Thursday the agency would move as quickly as possible to appoint a judge to start the proceedings, which could last up to three years. The agency said four U.S. Steel plants spew 1,440 pounds of cyanide a day into the river, Wheeling-Pittsburgh's Monessen plant discharges 676 pounds a day and completed a residency in pediatric surgery and pediatric cardiac surgery at Montreal Children's Hospital.
