NEW YORK, Jan. 23 Cotton futures continued to decline with prices moving over a fairly wide range today. Final prices were 60 cents to $1.20 a bale lower. The market was nervous because of uncertainty over pending farm legislation and whether any changes will be made in time to affect the 1958 cotton crop.

Slow buying of cotton textiles and reports of an easing in prices on some types of cloth contributed to the pressure on nearby futures positions. Hedge selling was moderately active in nearby deliveries. The Census Bureau reported gin-nings from the 1957 crop, prior to Jan. 16, totaled 10,632,810 running bales. This indicated that ginnings between Dec.

12 and Jan. 16 approximated 1,432,000 bales. Cotton analysts said there were record ginnings for that period. They felt the final ginnings report would easily reach the last cotton crop forecast by the Department of Agriculture in December which was equivalent to 10,907,000 running bales.
