To do this recapping, Mr. T. W. Adair has just installed two of the latest and most scientific tire machines the Lodi recappers which cannot be equalled in performance anywhere else in Louisiana. Mr.

Adair also handles the famous1' Rr" 1 htf-JJKl -TT was being baked Into the tread of the tire at terrific heat, to mold every last speck of it into a solid mass, but THERE WAS YIMXALLY NO HEAT ON THE SIDEWALLS TO BREAK THEM DOWN, DESTROY THE RVBBER COATING OR IN ANY WAY' WEAKEN THE CORD! "Research shows that 88 per cent of blowouta come through ths aide-walls of the tire," he explained. "Ordinary retreading means cutting the rubber off the sidewalls and then baking nw rubber into ths walls at the same terrlfflc heat used on the tread. That means that, even with the finest of ordinary types of retreading, the owners take out a tire that may look fine with its new rubber surfacing, but the cord, the walls, the sides have been ruined by heat, weakened and become possible agents of death and destruction through blowout. "I don't know how many thousands of persons are killed or injured every year through the side walls of tires blowing out, but the records show that 880 out of every 1,000 blowouts are sldewall breaking of the tire. "A tire retreaded by in with these new, scientific machines.

Pictured above are the two new I.odl tire rerapplng machines Just Installe dat the Adair Tire Company, 1718 Marshall street. The latest and most modern development of science In the tire line, they mold on a new tread of the finest, purest rubber at a terrific temperature, yet keep the sidewalls of the tire cool during the process. This avoids possibility of burning the vt ideualls, or breaking them down through heat with resulting risk of blowouts. Daniel K. Cllne, graduate of a tire Industrial college and supervisor of this work at Adair's Is shown taking a tire out of the passenger tire machine, with the truck tire machine at the left.

General new tires, featuring the Dual-8 with its absolutely skid-safe features, long, safe wear and pro- taction against blowouts but, the most amazing thing In the Adair headquarters is the new method of putting new rubber on old casings to put them back in first class running condition. Most people speak or "retreading" when they talk of having a new treed put on an old tire. With the Lodi method, it actually is recapping safer, surer, better in every way. But, rail It retreading or rail It rerapplng tlie difference between the methods used at Adair's and those used at other places is as great as the difference between the North and the South poles. "See that thermometer?" Mr.

Adair asked as he pointed to one of the brand new Lodi machines the latest development of science and the result of tremendous research in tire work. "It is registering 300 degrees temperature. That's the heat being applied to the new, pure rubber tread being molded onto that casing. "But, now, put your hand here on the part of the machine covering the sldewalli of this tire." While the temperature was 300 degree where the heat hit the tread too hot even to put the hand near the hand could be held for many seconds directly on the heavy steel part of the machine which against the sldewall. Most barbecued steaks at most places are Just fried or broiled steaks with ordinary fuel for heat. But at the Pig'n Whistle you can go right out in the back and see the big pile of fine hickory logs and the barbecue rack with the glowing hickory coals underneath. It is real genuine barbecue that you get at the Plg'n Whistle hickory coals barbecue, not Just ordinary methods of cooking with the wood "barbecue stuck on the menu to catch the eye. "Ill Mr. Garfnrd explained, "that ome your teetli have sunk Into one of our barbecued steaks you'll never be satisfied with any other kind or steak anywhere ele, no matter bow It Is rooked or what It Is called.

When we say hickory barbecue, we mean real hirkorv coals, in a real barbecue rack and with the finet ruts of good tender meat. "It's the same way with our bar becued chicken and barbecued pork the finest quality to begin with, genuine hickory coals and genuine barbecue in every way. Just look around at other places and see how many mean all of this when they talk of barbecue." Pig'n Whistle is the home and the only home of the genuine Pig Sandwich. The Pig Sandwich is a development of the Pig'n Whistle only, made through a secret process and with secret ingredients. It is made with pork of course and the pork is cooked over those real hickory coals.

It is cubed pork for one thing and then after it is cooked it soaks for a certain length of time the exact time is a secret In a special sauce concocted by Mr. Gafford. That sauce is the REAL secret. No one else knows how to make It and no sandwich Is the genuine sandwich unless it has soaked in this special sauce of Mr. Gafford's.

Of course the Pig'n Whistle has attic ventilation for cool, pleasant eating during these hot evenings. ZUZAK AND CO. Phone 6400 McNeil St. 1 PHONE 8-3891 Electric Appliance House" But we won't ruin the sldewall and we will give joii a tread of rubber exactly the same as that which goes into new General tires, except the Dual-8, where a special rubber is used. "We don't use any of this 12 cent a pound rubber we use fine, pure rubber averaging around 27 cents a pound." There are two of the new ma chines one for truck tires and one for passenger car tires. In addition there are two other machines used in the whole process.

One is a sort of "mechanical hand" which holds the tire for inspection when it is first brought in, shining a light in Just the right place to reveal defects. Holes are located and fixed and the general preliminary work done. Next the tire goes onto a breaker where the tread is pushed automatically against a revolving culinder covered with pointed spikes about one-half Inch or more in length. These break down the old rubber surface of the tread and remove it, but the teeth do not come close to the. sidewalls and there is no danger of making an unintentional snag.

Then, after final buffing, the tire is covered with the flat ribbon of thick, heavy rubber and placed in the Lodi machine for the combination of high and low temperature processing heat against the tread, coolness against the sidewalls. After an hour, the tire comes out and there are cranes to handle the big tires quickly and then with the final touching up It is ready for the customer. Only through the methods used at Adair's can all of this be done In this 100-per cent fashion which gives the finest of new treads with ABSOLUTELY NO DAMAGE TO THE SIDEWALLS. When you drive away on Adalr-retreaded or recapped tires, you know you're not driving into the blowout danger zone through weakening of your tire sidewalls. When It comes to new tires, every-ne knows that the General line stands right at the top.

The Dual-8 is an absolutely skid-safe tire, due to gripping ability of its tread, which forms a serpentine squeegee as the brakes are applied, grasping tightly to the wet road and holding right through the surface film of water which causes most tires to skid and slide. The Dual-8 simply CANNOT do that. Actual testse under supervised goes out of here with the side-walls not weakened or damaged In any way. Believe It or not, that Is not possible under any other method. We don't pretend to take an old tire and make it new.

We can't put a new side-wall on It and no one else ran. CHAMPION Compressors CADDO Oil Equipment Co. 105 Beach Phone 2-5537 ERECTION MAINTAINING Phone 6479 F. P.
